Youth are the future of a nation. A state like West Bengal can make tremendous progress if a large section of its female population is empowered through education, socio-political and economic reforms. Committed to this idea of women empowerment, the Government of West Bengal started its flagship ‘Kanyashree Scheme’ for the female students of the state. This scheme guarantees financial assistance to all the female students between the age group of 13 to 18 enrolled in schools. In June 2017, United Nations honours ‘Kanyashree’ with the highest public service award. With an aim to extend the reach of female students to the arena of higher education, the Government of West Bengal established ‘Kanyashree University’ in Krishnanagar, Nadia, WB in the year 2020.
The noble mission of ‘Kanyashree University’ is to create an environment where women can develop and empower themselves through education. The university does everything to enable the women to have autonomy over their own lives, make choices and decisions, and have equal access to resources and opportunities. The university firmly believes that quality education is a crucial factor in empowering women as it provides them with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to make informed decisions, participate in society, and achieve their goals. The university offers a wide range of postgraduate programmes like in English, Bengali, Education, History, Geography, Social Work, Law, Sanskrit, Food and Nutrition, Mass Communication and Journalism and Mathematics.
As the Vice Chancellor of this promising university, I feel honoured and fortunate to have the opportunity to work with my faculty and students with an aim to achieve the shared goal of the university. Even though we are a new university, we have a pool of dedicated faculties who continuously work for the empowerment of women. As a result, we have a very good track record of our students qualifying national and state level tests like UGC-NET-JRF, WBSET, WB-TET, WB-Judicial Services, Media Journalists etc. In fact, we at Kanyashree University invest in girls' education with a hope to create a more just and equitable world for all.
